You don't do much farming without learning a little bit about the weather.  It seems like our eyes are always on the sky during the Spring (and more often than not, on the internet weather radar site as well).  Here at New Roots Farm, spring can be a challenging season.  Like a new born calf balancing on four gangly legs, spring sometimes has a difficult time deciding which direction to move in. Sooner or later though, the sun starts to make itself known again and the fields begin to dry out. 
to have soil under your fingernails again.  We have a lot on our plate this year on the farm: we've opened new fields, built some new high tunnels, planted a mind-boggling amount and array of cool season crops, and we'll be trying our hand at making hay for the first time.  We're looking forward to selling at the Exeter Farmers' Market for the first time as well as returning to Hampton and Portsmouth. Come visit us this spring for all your garden seedling needs as well as lettuce, greens, peas and other early season favorites.  You'll find a list of upcoming events below.  Check back often for updates, and keep your eye on the clouds!
This year, the weather has been almost tolerable and we've got an early jump on our field preparation and planting.  After a winter spent huddled around the wood stove when we weren't building greenhouses or finishing the new roof on the barn, it's nice

Upcoming and Ongoing Events at New Roots Farm

Portsmouth Farmers' Market- We'll be at the area's largest market with increasingly larger harvests beginning May 9th.  Saturdays from 8 to l at City Hall.

Hampton Farmers' Market- A gem of a market located at the Sacred Heart Church parking lot on Route l (near the Galley Hatch). Tuesdays  beginning June 2nd from 3 to 6

Exeter Farmers' Market- Located in the Swasey Parkway near downtown Exeter on Thursdays from 2:30 to 6. Market begins two weeks early this year on May 21st!
